Summer Moving Tips

Follow these simple summer moving tips to help your summer move

Summer time is here and for many people it is the best and easiest time to move. The weather is more predictable and the kids are out of school and free to help pack. For most home moves summer makes the most sense because summer is actually the peak home buying season. Check out some of Arrow Moving’s summer moving tips.

Keep your documents accessible. While school is not in session, documents like your kid’s school records or medical documents or your pet’s vacciniation records can all be important in the transition period. Depending on how far you are moving you might be dealing with new school districts, doctors and vets. Keep these documents in an easily accessible place so you are not sorting through boxes when the time comes.

File your change of address forms early. This moving tip is one of the simplest but also one of the most essential. If you take the time to change your address before you move the transition will be that much simpler and you will have one less thing to worry about on moving day itself.

Start packing sensitive items early to ensure they are safe. Making sure any fragile or important items are packed and ready to go in advance. A home can be a hectic place on moving day and you want to make sure your beloved items are safe from anyone tripping over or bumping into them. Arrow Moving and Storage can provide you with any of the packing material or advise you might need.

Contact your moving company with questions in advance. A pro summer moving tip is to contact your moving company to make sure you are following all of their guidelines. Most people have a list of non-allowables on the truck. These are items that you need to take in your own vehicle or arrange to be moved in another manner.

Bubble Wrap Is Your Friend On Moving Day

Bubble wrap may be one of the most useful tools you have when packing delicate objects for your big move. Our professional staff will always ensure that your belongings are not damaged and everything arrives safely at your new home or business but it never hurts to have some additional protection. Here are some tips and tricks to help you make the most of it and how you can be better prepared on moving day.

Bubble wrap your dishes. Dishes are probably the most common item in your house that should make friends with bubble wrap while packing. Simply wrapping each dish with a layer of the bubbly stuff before placing them in cardboard boxes will keep them safe and ready for pizza when you settle in.

Pre-wrap some items before bubble wrap. Some of your more delicate ceramics of glass items can end up with little remnants of plastic from the bubbles themselves. This can happen more often if the items are exposed to sunlight or higher temperatures for an extended amount of time. If you wrap the items in paper before applying the bubble wrap you can avoid this problem.

Bubbles in or bubbles out? This is a surprisingly common question. The general consensus is that the bubbles should be facing inward. The main reason for this is that the primary purpose of the bubbles is to secure the item and provide a bit of a cushion if there is any bouncing. This can only happen if the bubbles are facing inward and making contact with the item being protected.

Tape every side. It can be easy to wrap your item in bubble wrap and only tape one side to make a seal. While it may seem like a good idea at the time it is better to tape all of the sides to make sure there aren’t any holes for your item to slip out of its protective covering.

Use bubble wrap lined envelopes for flat objects. The reason for this is simple – it’s easier. Not only does the bubble wrap provide added protection but taking something out of an envelope is easier than unwrapping it like a present.

Having all of your belongings safe and snug in some bubble wrap will help everything go smoothly while Arrow Moving and Storage takes care of the rest for you. Call us today for a quote.

Easily Prevent Moving Scams

Avoid common moving scams and save money in the process

Hiring a moving company without properly vetting them first can be the cause of all sorts of problems. Thousands of people are taken advantage of every year by fly-by-night moving companies that make big promises but fail to follow through. Some common results of moving scams can be large delays in delivery of your stuff, damaged or stolen property, a misleading estimate that ends up being a bait-and-switch, or even having your things held for ransom.

Here are some things you can do to keep yourself safe.

Check the moving company’s rating with the Better Business Bureau. Arrow Moving and Storage is fully accredited with the BBB and handles all customer service with the utmost seriousness and speed.

Get an in-home estimate. Not all moving companies will send a representative to your home in order to provide you with an estimate. This is the only way to get an accurate idea of how much the move will cost. Arrow Moving will have someone from the company available in your home to answer your questions face-to-face and to break down the estimate and make sure everything is easily understandable for you.

Get complete contracts. Some moving scams can start with an incomplete contract. Make sure that your contract doesn’t include any blank spaces that will be filled after the fact. Movers are not legally allowed to charge more than 110 percent of the quoted price no matter what happens. In the end, make sure you feel comfortable with what you are getting into. Our friendly staff are available at any time to answer any questions you might have and make sure you get the best experience possible.

Not only does Arrow Moving offer full value protection but we are also licensed and bonded as well so you know that your are safe with us.
